Theme: “Restoration on the way"
Text: Zechariah 8:1-8
1. The word of the LORD of hosts is revealed, in these words: 2. Thus says the LORD of hosts: I am filled with great jealousy for Zion, and I am seized with great fury for her. 3. Thus says the LORD: I return to Zion, and I will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called the faithful city, and the mountain of the Lord of hosts holy mountain. 4. Thus says the LORD of hosts: Old men and old women will still sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with a staff in his hand, because of the great number of their days. 5. The streets of the city will be filled with young boys and girls, playing in the streets. 6. Thus saith the LORD of hosts: If the thing appear marvelous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in those days, shall it likewise be marvelous in my eyes? says the LORD of hosts. 7. Thus saith the LORD of hosts: Behold, I deliver my people from the land of the east and from the land of the setting sun. 8. I will bring them back, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem; they will be my people, and I will be their God with truth and righteousness.
Let's remember:
The Lord announces the restoration of Zion. As always, Yahweh silences his anger and sets his love in motion. The love of God locates us everywhere; even in our rebellion, the love of God comes to seek us; he pursues us until he catches up with us in order to bring us back before his face to wash us and justify us. The Lord God took pity on his people; he recovered from his anger and promised to restore him to his holy city. There is a very subtle message that we perceive as a spark that illuminates our faith; it is the name of the city where the people of God will live. It is written: Yahweh returns to Zion, and he wants to dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Jerusalem shall be called the faithful city, and the mountain of the Lord of hosts holy mountain. These two attributes of God did not appear casually in this account; it is even what God wants to find in the midst of the restored people: fidelity and holiness. The Lord promises to restore the people who are in captivity and to give them a cure of youth to the point of filling with life all the land which had become almost desert. Rejoice that God takes away our sins and restores us. Excellent Friday and good start into the weekend. Amen
