Theme: “The Christian facing death
Text: John 11:32-35

32. When Mary came to where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell at his feet and said to him, Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 33. Jesus, seeing her and the Jews who came with her weeping, trembled in his spirit, and was greatly moved. 34. And he said: Where have you put it? Lord, they replied, come and see. 35. Jesus wept.

Let's remember:

We do not resist death. We come out of our sentimental comfort to burst into tears. It's not easy to lose a loved one and face someone who was one of your friends; moreover a friend who has the capacity to preserve from death. The reality was too overwhelming to move Jesus. When it comes to addressing God, we must never do so in the past tense as if He is not capable of stopping time, of rewinding time, of bringing life back to where death had created the irreparable. Life is in the hands of Jesus; just as death is. A single statement from Jesus can overturn the rules pre-established for millennia in order to manifest his divinity and lordship. In the bosom of Jesus there is no limit or flaw that would block his action, whatever it may be. Let us go before Him with a willing heart and a well-formulated request if we want life to return where death had been declared for several days. Death can affect our finances, our marriage, our work, our faith, our gifts, our health, in short everything within us can be dead for months or even years. We have a daily visit from Jesus who comes to inspect to see the progress of our situation. Let us speak to Him with confidence as we await the resurrection of that which is dead. Excellent Friday and good start to the weekend. Amen
